November 17, 2001: WCW Velocity on FX Results
POSTED BY DYLAN DRAMA | NOVEMBER 17, 2001

It’s Saturday Night! Some people have friends, I’m sitting at home at 11am watching WCW’s lesser stars compete with next to no stakes! The Velocity Theme and Video opens the show and ringside we have Scott Hudson & Don West to call the action.

Match 1: Curt Hennig vs. Rodney Mack

Mack is making his WCW debut here, and the former Redd Dogg of ECW fame has his own entrance and everything! The match starts with the standard lock up and Mack creates some space and uses some power with a big forearm to Hennig’s face. Mack works some shots onto Hennig and sends him into the ropes and Hennig comes back right into a big jumping shoulder block. Mack goes for the quick pin but Hennig kicks out at 1. Mack keeps the pressure on and with a jawbreaker to Hennig and then locks in a side bearhug. Hennig gets the slow clap from the fans and battles back, he hits some elbows to the gut and sends Mack into the ropes and hits a big back body drop. Mack scrambles to his feet into a snapmare and Hennig hits his float over neck snap after. Mack is in trouble and Hennig hooks him up, Hennig-Plex! 1-2-3!

Winner: Curt Hennig
Rating: 6.1 / 10
Curt Hennig always delivers something half decent, and Mack got to look decent in what is his WCW debut. Interesting that WCW debut Amos last week and Mack this week on Velocity.

Backstage in Arn’s Office, Arn is talking to CW Anderson and Pete Gas again, telling them they need to change there approach and earn their spot in WCW. Amos Hersch walks in and Arn complements his performance last week on Velocity. Anderson tells him to go out there and show Pete & CW what a dominating performance looks like.

Match 2: Michael Shane vs. Amos Hersch

The bell rings and Shane runs into Hersch and bounces off like a child. Shane uses Amos to try and stand back up, but Hersch clubs him down with a big forearm. Hesch lifts up Shane and sends him into the ropes then decimates him with a Bossman Slam. Hersch picks up Shane and sends him into the turnbuckle hard causing Shane to bounce off. Amos then proceeds to the corner and hits the Vader Bomb Elbow Drop he hit last week, which causes Don West to scream “Deadweight Elbow!” over-and-over. That’s all she wrote.

Winner: Amos Hersch
Rating: 3.6 / 10
Another squash for Amos. I can never give squashes like this too high of a score since it barely qualifies as a match, but it looks like Amos may become WCW’s next monster.
Match 3: Jason Jett & Tommy Dreamer vs. Full Blooded Italians (Chuck Palumbo & Johnny Stamboli)

The FBI doesn’t have Guido in there corner this week with Hudson explaining he was away taking care of family business. The match is a surprisingly competitive back-and-forth affair, with Jett providing the high-flying energy and Dreamer bringing the grit. The F.B.I. use frequent tags to isolate Dreamer, but he eventually makes the hot tag to Jett who clears the ring with a series of dropkicks. The finish comes abruptly when Palumbo catches a charging Dreamer with a massive Super Kick, knocking him clean out of the ring. With Jett alone, Palumbo and Stamboli signal for the end. Palumbo catches Jett with a Backbreaker and holds him across his knee as Stamboli scales the turnbuckle, connecting with a Top Rope Diving Leg Drop—The Last Kiss—to secure the victory.

Winner: Full Blooded Italians
Rating: 5.6 / 10
Nice little tag team match, but everyone here seems completely directionless. Dreamer is randomly in bigger matches and backstage segments, but they all seem to go nowhere. The FBI is seemingly sidelined as an act for a bit as The Foundation dominates the tag team division, and Jason Jett still hasn’t really been given the opportunity to break out. Either way, was a nice match and all these guys could be bigger contributors to WCW television.
Match 4: Blonde Bombshell vs. Stacy Keibler

The two beautiful ladies circle the ring and look for a lock up, but immediately begin pulling each others hair and clawing at each other. Referee Charles Robinson gets between them and reminds them it’s a wrestling match. The two ladies finally lock up and Bombshell ends up with Stacy in a headlock. Stacy gives some shots to Bombshell and shoves her off. Bombshell then charges at Keibler and takes her down to the mat and begins firing shots at her. Keibler scrambles to the ropes and Charles Robinson breaks up the action again. Keibler then tries hiding behind Robinson for a while. Robinson eventually ducks and Keibler slaps Bombshell right across the face. Keibler hooks her up and hits a swinging neckbreaker and goes for the pin for a 2 count. Keibler locks in a chinlock for a while and Bombshell gets the crowd behind her and battles back. Bombshell is on her feet and begins driving elbows into Keibler’s midsection causing her to double over. Bombshell then grabs her and plants her with a Bulldog out of nowhere and goes for the pin, but Keibler gets her long leg on the bottom rope and the count stops at 2. Stasiak pulls Keibler out of the ring and tried to give her a peptalk, but Bombshell follows her to the outside. Stasiak tries to create some space and as Bombshell charges in, he catches her in a hug. Stacy turns to see Stasiak & Bombshell hugging and goes ballistic, attacking Bombshell with slaps and hair pulling. Bombshell starts returning the shots as Don West yells “Cat Fight!” which leads to Stasiak & Rection now both trying to break the two women up. The bell rings and it seems Robinson has counted both women out as they continue to brawl.

Winner: No Contest Via Countout
Rating: 2.9 / 10
These women can’t wrestle. But there is some sort of story being told here, which is fine I guess? But I don’t see the point of any of this besides some eye candy.

After the bell, the women continue to brawl. Stasiak & Rection frantically try to separate the women. Stasiak shoves Rection at one point to get out of his way, which then leads to Rection shoving Stasiak back. And now the men are brawling! Keibler and Bombshell are in the ring and rolling around and Keibler is now ripping at Bombshell’s top! Keibler rips it off and Bombshell is in her Bra! Bombshell looks incensed and tackles Keibler and almost as quickly has ripped off her mini-skirt leaving Keibler in just her underwear. Rection & Stasiak finally stop brawling and grab their respective women. Stasiak and Keibler scurry up the ramp as the Misfits In Action stand in the middle of the ring, shouting at the retreating duo.

Overall Show Rating: 5.1 / 10
DYLAN'S FINAL THOUGHTS: There were rumors Velocity was going to get more focused, but Keibler & Bombshell is the epitome of what I do not care about. Beautiful women, but they cannot wrestler, the fans do no really care, and its not really wrestling. I guess maybe they are trying to be some sort of “adult” Saturday night show? I don’t know. Velocity continues to be largely hit and miss. There are fine matches, like tonight, but also some really forgettable stuff, and ultimately all of it just feels like Saturday night timeslot filler for FX and not an important show.
