November 10, 2001: WCW Velocity On FX Results
POSTED BY DYLAN DRAMA | NOVEMBER 10, 2001

WCW Velocity is at us PRETAPED from the Cricket Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina. Generic rock music amps up the show and we are with Scott Hudson & Don West at ringside who hype up the War Games announcement from Nitro, and Don West almost has a heart attack as he hypes a night of fast action on Velocity.

Match 1: Shane Helms vs. Kwee Wee

Match opens with a tie up and some quick back and forth mat wrestling from the two. Helms takes the advantage early with a few quick arm drags and locks in a grounded hammerlock. Kwee Wee quickly makes it to his feet and Helms transitions into a waistlock, which Kwee Wee notices, looks at the camera, then proceeds to gyrate his hips causing Helms to let go. Helms charges in with a clothesline, but Kwee Wee ducks it then plants Helms with a big Blue Thunder Bomb and gets a two on the former Cruiserweight champion. Kwee Wee tries to keep the action going and forces Helms into the corner and lifts him to set up a superplex. Helms manages to push off Kwee Wee and then crush him with a huge Diving Crossbody. Helms signals for the big move, and as Kwee Wee stagers to his feet, Helms hooks him and nails the Vertebreaker for the 3.

Winner: Shane Helms
Rating: 5.8 / 10
I liked that. I always highlight the guys I don’t think are given much at all, and Kwee Wee falls in that group with Crowbar and Jason Jett who I feel is much better than people realize and doesn’t get any opportunity. Helms is the bigger star here though, and feels like WCW may be slowly building him back up to a point of relevancy.

Blonde Bombshell is backstage doing her hair and makeup in a mirror. Stacy Keibler walks up and tells her to get out of the way. Bombshell says she’ll just be a minute and Stacy shoves her out of the way instead. Bombshell then shoves her back and continues to do her makeup, and Stacy shoves her and it’s a CAT FIGHT! The two ladies tangle it up on the floor as various backstage officials try to break them up until finally General Rection and Shawn Stasiak show up and pull their respective valet away.

Match 2: Kaz Hayashi & Paul London vs. Primetime Players (Elix Skipper & Kid Romeo)

I guess Paul London doesn’t qualify as a Jung Dragon. London starts out with Skipper and the two go crazy for a hot minute wrestling faster then I think fans could keep up with. Skipper hits a jumping hurricanrana, then London hits one of his own, and both men end up standing up and facing off. Skipper cuts off any momentum with a spinning wheel kick. Skipper and Romeo isolate London with some quick tags and a bunch of double team moves. Romeo finally goes to put London away with a Northern Lights Bomb, but London wiggles out and hits a Dropsault on Romeo allowing the hot tag to Hayashi. Hayashi comes in hot and takes out Romeo and Skipper with a series of martial arts kicks and he even plants Skipper with his Wrist-Clutch Air Raid Crash, but Romeo is the legal man. Romeo quickly rolls up Hayashi and has a handful of tights and gets the 3!

Winners: Primetime Players
Rating: 4.1 / 10
Its okay. All guys here seem pretty rudderless and it feels any of the four could do more as soon as the story comes along that makes sense. Hayashi has sadly seemed to fizzle out a bit after getting hot for a month or two, as the crowd didn’t really react to him. Him teaming with London also has me wondering when Yun Yang may come back.
Match 3: Slater Vain vs. Amos Hersch

Amos Hersch is the former Roadkill of ECW fame, and he’s debuting with WCW on Velocity. He has a new look and has dumped the Amish gear and is just a big hairy man in blank drunks, a George Costanza hairstyle and a big mutton chops. Hudson acknowledges Amos’ ECW background and says he has finally left the Chicken Farm and vowed to destroy anyone in his way. Match starts with Slater Vain running at Amos for a clotheslines, but Amos just shrugs him off. Amos then lifts Viain wit ha big scoop slam and then a sidewalk slam for a 2. Roadkill then tosses Vain into the corner and absolutely squashes him. Vain falls to the mat right by the turnbuckle and Amos scales to the middle rope and hits a Vader Bomb Elbow Drop and gets the 3.

Winner: Amos Hersch
Rating: 3.5 / 10
I’m not sure what to make of Roadkill’s new look. Its unique and a head turner but I’m not sure for the right reasons. This is a debut on a b-show and a squash. It can only get better from here.

After the match, Hersch continues to assault Vain, nailing two more of his Vader Elbow moves and yelling “Sayn Dich!”

Match 4: General Rection w/Blonde Bombshell vs. Mark Jindrak

Rection and Jindrak tie up and Jindrak starts to force Rection back into the corner, but Rection plants his feet and starts pushing back, shoving Jindrak back into the opposite corner before breaking the lock up. Jindrak signals to lock up again, and as Rection goes to, Jindrak drills him with a big right hand. Jindrak takes control with a series of punches and gets Reciton back into the corner. Jindrak tosses whips him across the ring and follows up with a Clothesline in the opposite corner. Jindrak manages to lift the big Rection up with a big back suplex and gets a 2. Jindrak begins to climb the ropes and is looking to put Rection down fast, but Rection cuts him off with a punch, then goes up top himself and the two end up crashing down with a Rection Superplex. Ref starts the double down count and both men are to their feet around 7. The begin to exchange punches in the middle of the ring and Jindrak again seems to have the heavier hands and staggers Rection. Jindrak goes off the ropes and comes back but gets slammed with a big powerslam on the rebound. Rection takes a minute to catch his breath and both men are now back on their feet. Jindrak goes for a big right hand, but Reciton dodges. Jindrak goes for another, and Rection dodges it. Rection begins firing back with rights of his own and has Jindrak flailing all over the ring. A whip from Rection to Jindrak towards the turnbuckle, but Jindrak hops to the top rope in one big jump. Jindrak quickly leaps off with a twisting Diving Clothesline, but Rection ducks it and Jindrak crashes and burns. Rection sees his chance and scales the ropes himself. No Laughing Matter Moonsault! 1-2-3!

Winner: General Rection
Rating: 5.3 / 10
I liked it, but its weak for a Velocity main event. Jindrak got way more in then I expected, and the height he got on his jump to the top rope was amazing. The right man wins though and Rection is looking for something to do with Corporal Cajun hurt and Rection seemingly being left off Team WCW without much explanation as he seemed like the obvious choice as a 4th man if you ask me.
Overall Show Rating: 5.9 / 10
DYLAN'S FINAL THOUGHTS: This week didn’t do it for me. While it wasn’t bad, it was definitely skippable. Nothing was offensive, but nothing was something I’d say anyone needed to watch. Helms & Kwee Wee probably had the only thing I’d put towards the category of okay or good on the show. Also the random backstage fight between Bombshell & Stacy seemed to hint at something more happening, possibly during the main event, but then, nothing happened. Oh well.
