WCW Velocity aired Saturday Night and we have the results here! Scott Hudson & Don West are our hosts from the Bank of America Centre in Boise, Idaho!
Willy Fraizer started the match with some energetic power moves, but the pace slowed when Kwee Wee stopped everything to challenge Fraizer to a dance-off. Fraizer looked at Norman Smiley, who gave him the nod, and both men began trading dance moves in the center of the ring to a confused Boise crowd. Kwee Wee thought he had it won, but Fraizer leveled him with a clothesline as soon as the dancing stopped. Kwee Wee tried to battle back with a vertical suplex, but Fraizer countered hoisting Kwee Wee up and planting him with a crisp Falcon Arrow for the 3!
It's nice to see WCW maybe giving some newer talent a bit of chance with Fraizer, who has a good look and great charisma, but the match was between two guys no one cared about and was an easy skip. Kwee Wee flops from looking great to looking mediocre every time I see him.
WCW shows an interview with Curt Hennig, hyping the main event tonight of him vs. Lance Storm.
This was a back and forth tag match. London and Chetti used quick tags and double team moves early on to keep Kid Romeo off balance. The tide turned when Skipper caught London mid-air with a kick to the ribs, allowing the Primetime Players to isolate London in their corner. London eventually made the hot tag to Chetti, who cleared the ring with a series of dropkicks. The finish came as the match broke down and Chetti was sent to the outside. London tried to dive off the top, but Elix Skipper caught him coming down with a big heel kick. Skipper then planted London with the Overdrive and the victory.
Again Velocity is looking like gloried dark matches. Like with the first match its nice to see talent get some screen time, but its just b-show filler at this point.
We get a video package hyping Jason Jett. Of all the guys not yet given a real shot, he's maybe been the most impressive. Maybe he can be the savior of Velocity.
Backstage, Lance Storm with Dawn Marie cuts a promo on Hennig saying he'll prove who the perfect one is tonight.
The match began with a classic wrestling sequence as both men traded amateur takedowns and hammerlocks. Hennig showed he hasn't lost a step, out grappling Storm early and hitting a perfect dropkick that sent Storm to the outside to confer with Dawn Marie. Once back in, Storm's strategy became clear as he began targeting Hennig’s left leg. Storm used the ring post to stretch the limb and applied a series of dragon screws to ground the veteran. Hennig tried to rally, hitting a signature neck snap and even attempting the Hennig Plex, but his leg gave out during the lift. Storm capitalized instantly, chop blocking the weakened knee. With Hennig prone, Storm dragged him to the center of the ring and sat back deep on the Canadian Maple Leaf. Hennig struggled and reached for the ropes, but the pain was too much, forcing him to tap out.
Now here's a great match! If wonder if the formula for Velocity will move to two glorified dark matches and one great match every week. There are worse options. Hennig & Storm are technical masters, and it showed here. Great match!
