WCW Velocity is back, the last stop to Halloween Havoc. Scott Hudson & Don West welcome us to the show as Disqo & Mike Sanders are on their way to the ring.
The match begins with Anderson and Gas on the offensive, as they manage to trap Mike Sanders in their corner. However, the momentum is short lived. Pete Gas struggles to keep up with the pace, missing a corner splash that allows Sanders to make the hot tag. Disqo enters with a flurry of offense, while CW Anderson visibly shows his frustration on the apron, shouting instructions at a dazed Gas. The end comes quickly when Gas stumbles right into a kick to the gut, followed by Disqo hitting the Stunner for the 1-2-3.
Not the best. I feel both these teams are completely directionless. Disqo & Sanders have proven they have something to offer in a bigger role, but Anderson & Gas seem like such a none factor for the somewhat promising start they had.
Backstage, Tommy Dreamer cuts an interview saying it's about time WCW meets the Extreme Tommy Dreamer.
Swinger tries to use his power advantage early, grounding Helms with a series of backbreakers and a heavy bearhug. Helms shows great resilience, fighting out and picking up the tempo with a series of leaping clotheslines. Swinger attempts a press slam, but Helms slides out the back, nails a superkick, and climbs the turnbuckle. Helms flies off with a crossbody for a near fall, then maintains the pressure, Nightmare on Helms Street to secure the win.
A fine little cruiserweight match. Swinger works a much more grounded powerhouse style which gives some nice variety to cruiserweight matches and I’ve liked him so far in his enhancement appearances. Helms looks to rebuild some momentum and he’s a guy that I think WCW needs to be doing more with 100%.
Backstage we see the Blonde Bombshell doing her makeup in a mirror. Stacy Keibler walks up and tells Bombshell to move so she can fix her makeup but BB brushes her off. Keibler demands respect as the Women’s Champion! Only for Bombshell to remind her she isn’t champion anymore. The two break out into a big cat fight only for nearby officials to break it up.
The match sees Hennig out wrestling Bagwell for the majority of the contest. Bagwell relies on his power and D'Lo's interference to stay in it. Hennig eventually locks in the perfect setup and nails the Hennig-Plex! He goes for the cover, but D'Lo Brown jumps onto the apron to distract the referee. Hennig breaks the pin to confront Brown, and in the confusion, Bagwell has wrapped a chain around his first. As the ref turns back to the action, Bagwell strikes Hennig across the jaw with the chain and quickly throws it out of the ring. Bagwell covers for the cheap victory.
It was okay. Seemed Hennig wasn’t that motivated and Bagwell isn’t the guy to get a good match on his own. Still fine though hand Bagwell picks up a win heading into Halloween Havoc.
