It’s Saturday Night, so it’s time to not go out with friends, sit at home, eat Cheetoh’s and watch professional wrestling! WCW Velocity is back on the air on FX with Scott Hudson & Don West welcoming us to the action after the Velocity theme plays. We open the show, with a promo segment! Shawn Stasiak & Stacy Keibler are on their way to the ring.
Keibler gets on the mic. She complains that WCW has mistreated her and Shawn, forgetting that this is all supposed to be the Shawn & Stacy Show! It’s time people begin to show them the respect they deserve and that all the dog-faced people of Dayton Beach need to get on their feet and give them a standing ovation for just blessing them with their presence. And here comes the “Doggfather” BG James! James sarcastically applauds and stands at the top of the ramp. He says Stacy needs to learn when to speak, and when to keep her mouth shut, and now is a mouth shut time because the Doggfather is speaking. James runs down Shawn & Stacy and finishes with a line about showing Stacy just what “Doggy style”. I guess its Saturday night!
The bell rings and Crowbar immediately goes on the attack, catching Jett with a series of stiff European uppercuts before tossing him into the turnbuckle. Jett recovers quickly, showcasing his athleticism by leaping over a charging Crowbar and connecting with a spinning heel kick. The action spills to the outside where Crowbar sends Jett into the steel steps, but Jett rebounds with a springboard crossbody off the barricade. Back in the ring, Crowbar locks in a seated surfboard stretch, wearing down Jett's back. Jett fights to his feet, trades forearm shivers with Crowbar, and catches him off guard with a handspring back elbow off the ropes. As Crowbar staggers back up, Jett hooks him and nails a Crash Landing for the 1-2-3.
Nice little match for these two, and these guys are in my opinion two of the better undercard guys in WCW along with Kwee Wee who I feel just need a chance to get the crowd behind them and the matches would improve.
Chetti and Kid Romeo start the match with some chain wrestling, but the Primetime Players quickly shift the momentum by using frequent tags to isolate Chetti. Mero finally gets the hot tag and clears the ring, hitting a TKO on Kid Romeo, but Skipper breaks up the pin at the last possible second. The match breaks down into chaos as all four men trade big moves in the center of the ring. Mero and Romeo tumble over the top rope during a clothesline attempt, leaving Chetti alone with Elix Skipper. Chetti goes for a Amityville Horror, but Skipper slips out, then sets up and drills an Overdrive for the pin.
The Primetime Players have quietly been putting some wins together. Their short little feud with Paul London seemed to evolve into this feud with Chetti. Does Mero take over now?
Stasiak uses his power advantage early, bullying James into the corners and hitting a heavy sidewalk slam. James starts to mount a comeback with his signature Juke’n’Jive punches, but Stacy Keibler jumps onto the apron, distracting the referee and allowing Stasiak rake James’ eyes. Stasiak takes control for a long stretch, wearing James down with a bearhug. James eventually escapes and builds momentum, sending Stasiak reeling with a flying forearm. Sensing trouble, Stacy climbs the apron again to distract James, but this time, James anticipates it, he cuts her off and gives her a sharp spank on the behind. The move shocks Stacy and infuriates Stasiak, who lunges at James in a blind rage. James ducks the wild swing and immediately rolls a distracted Stasiak with a School Boy for the three count.
A fine little match and a perfectly fine main event for a B-Show on Saturday nights. James is slowly rebuilding some steam, and Stasiak & Keibler are at least still on TV.
