We are in WCW's new official home of North Carolina from the Greensboro Coliseum in Greensboro! "Fat Lip" by Sum 41 is the official theme song to Bash At The Beach and opens the show playing over a video package hyping tonights events. Pyro time and Joey Styles & Jerry "The King" Lawler stand in the ring and welcome us to WCW Bash at the Beach! They run down the card and hype the crowd. A new video plays hyping Shane McMahon & Booker T vs. The Foundation for later tonight as Styles & Lawler head to the commentary position.

Match 1: "Monster vs. Mecca" - Sean O'Haire vs. Shawn Stasiak w/Stacy Keibler

Stasiak is first out with the lovely Stacy, and here comes the Psycho Killer. The bell rings and Stasiak immediately rolls to the outside. The ref starts the count and gets to 7, as Stasiak rolls back in and out again quickly. O'Haire is losing his patience as the ref starts the count up again. O'Haire now rolls out and chases after Stasiak, but he hides behind Stacy! O'Haire stops in his tracks and Stasiak pushes Stacy into O'Haire then follows it up with a big punch to the face. Stasiak looks in control early and pounds on O'Haire on the outside, eventually sending him into the ring steps with a big whip. Stasiak in the ring, but O'Haire is up and quickly follows him. Stasiak drops an elbow on O'Haire and gets a 2-count with the quick pin. Stasiak lifting O'Haire and looking for a Hangman's Neckbreaker, but O'Haire spins out, sends Stasiak into the ropes and destroys him with a big spinning kick. Stasiak is reeling. O'Haire lifts him on his shoulders, DEATH SPIRAL! 1-2-3!

Winner: Sean O'Haire
Rating: 5.5 / 10

Match was a little short, but that's O'Haire's gimmick right now. He isn't a typical monster as he actually sells a bit, but his big moves and athleticism are the true killers.

Match 2: "Old School Showdown" - Curt Hennig vs. Steve Corino

These two went for a classic wrestling feel right out of the gate with a lot of counter-wrestling and stalling from Corino to draw heat. After many minutes of Hennig getting the better of every exchange, Corino takes over with a thumb the eye and a swinging beckbreaker. Corino starts grounding and pounding on Hennig and locks in a kneeling chinlock. Hennig fighting back, but Corino goes to whip him down by his hair, but Hennig sees it coming and spins out, shoving Corino from behind into the ropes and hitting the rebounding Corino with a big back suplex for a 2 count. Hennig stays on him with an elbow drop and locks in a side headlock. Corino slowly fights back and shoves Hennig off and catches him in a sleeper on the rebound. Hennig quickly drops down and counters the sleeper with a jawbreaker. Corino is hurt, and Hennig gets a quick school boy for a 2. Hennig goes for another chinlock, but Corino shrugs it off quickly and escapes outside. After regrouping, Corino is back in the ring and the two lock up again, Corino this time gets the hand full of hair he was looking for earlier to pull Hennig back into the ropes, then shoot him off. Corino going for big back body drop, but Hennig grabs Corino's hear and whips him down! Corino is furious! The two are squaring off again, and lock up. They are battling for position, and end up squashing referee Charles Robinson in the corner. The ref is down! Corino sees his chance and goes for a low blow, but Hennig sees it coming and manages to block it. Armbar! Corino is tapping, but the ref is still down! Hennig lets it go and is trying to wake Lil' Naitch. Corino is up now and going in his trunks, he has brass knuckles! Hennig turns quickly and sees what Corino is doing and kicks the knuckles out of his hands. They slide across the canvas right to Charles Robinson who is now waking up. Corino is chasing after the knucks, but Charles has them! He is not happy. Corino is livid. He turns around, boot, hooked, Hennig-Plex! Tight bridge, 1-2-3!

Winner: Curt Hennig
Rating: 6.3 / 10

Hennig winning is a bit of a surprise! Corino seems like one of the guys WCW could really build up, but it looks like maybe they are looking to use Hennig's name value still. Good match all around, very grounded, very old school. Enjoyed the story of Corino trying to use old school tricks on the grizzled veteran and them starting to backfire and eventually leading to Hennig winning.

Match 3: 6-Man Cruiserweight Tag Team Showcase - 3 Count vs. Los Dragones

This was basically a car crash in the best way possible. From the jump, all six men were in and out of the ring with high-flying spots. 3 Count starts hot, with Shane Helms and Shannon Moore hitting double baseball slides to the outside on Hayashi and Yang, followed by big dives. In the ring, Karagias hits a Springboard Crossbody on Chavo in the ring for a quick 2 count. 3 Count is playing to the fans, but Chavo slows the pace down, catching Karagias with a thumb to the eye and tagging in Kaz Hayashi. Hayashi and Yang start isolating Karagias, utilizing quick tags and double team maneuvers, including a nasty double-knee gutbuster. Evan is struggling, but manages to dodge a splash from Yang and hits a desperation enzuigiri. Hot tag to Shane Helms! Helms is a house of fire, taking out Hayashi with a clothesline and hitting a X-Plex on Yang. All three members of 3 Count then hit synchronized dives over the top rope to the floor, wiping out Los Dragones.

The finish was pure chaos as the referee lost control and all six men ended up back in the ring. Chavo hits a Brainbuster on Moore, but Karagias breaks up the pin with low dropkick. Kaz Hayashi then nails Karagias with a spinning heel kick. Amidst the carnage, Yun Yang tries to use Chavo's Cruiserweight belt as a weapon while the ref is busy trying to get Helms out of the ring. Yang swings, but Karagias ducks, and Yang accidentally clocks Hayashi with the gold! Karagias immediately drills Yang with a big Michinoku Driver II. Karagias isn't done, he scrambles to the top turnbuckle and nails a 450 Splash! He hooks the leg, 1-2-3!

Winners: 3 Count
Rating: 6.5 / 10

That's what the cruiserweight division should be! These guys busted their butts and pulled out every crazy move in their arsenal to win the crowd over by the end. Karagias pinning Yang is a nice finish to as it gives someone else besides Helms & Chavo some skin in the title race.

Match 4: WCW United States Championship - Rob Van Dam (c) vs. Buff Bagwell

Bagwell looked more aggressive here than we have seen him in years. He didn't care about the fans; he just wanted to hurt RVD. The match started fast with RVD hitting a springboard kick that sent Buff to the floor, but Bagwell caught RVD on a plancha attempt and drove him spine-first into the apron. Buff was screaming at the front row, his face turning red as he pounded RVD with heavy right hands. Back in the ring, Bagwell slowed things down with a chinlock, but RVD fought up and hit a series of signature kicks and a rolling thunder for a close 2 count.

RVD followed up with a split-legged moonsault, but Bagwell got the knees up! Buff immediately capitalized, hitting a swinging neckbreaker and a huge superplex that nearly got the three. Bagwell's rage really started to boil over after he failed to get the win, and he caught RVD coming off the ropes with a Big Powerbomb. Buff went for the Buff Blockbuster, but RVD moved and Bagwell ate the canvas.

Incensed and looking like he was having a total meltdown, Buff leaves the ring and grabs a chair from ringside. Back in the ring, the referee tried to intervene, but Bagwell shoved him aside. He swung wildly at RVD’s head, but RVD dodged, and the chair bounced off the ropes right back into Bagwell’s face. RVD followed up with a big Van Daminator, which the referee let go since Bagwell brought the chair in! RVD up top and finally finishes Bagwell off with the Five Star Frog Splash!

Winner and STILL WCW United States Champion: Rob Van Dam
Rating: 7.9 / 10

What a match! RVD really brings the best out of people and the crowd is starting to really love him. Bagwell nearly snapping and going after RVD with a Chair, only to eat a Van Daminator that the referee lets slide is a nice way to build on Bagwell's current story.

After the match RVD is celebrating but he's blindsided by Bagwell! Bagwell has a lead pipe and nails RVD in the gut, then hits a nasty looking Neckbreaker with the pipe across RVD's throat. Bagwell has lost it! He leaves the ring as the ref checks on RVD in the ring.

Match 5: WCW World Tag Team Championship - MIA (c) vs. Disqo & Mike Sanders vs. FBI w/Guido Maritato

Typical triple threat tag match where the champions were constantly being isolated. Disqo and Mike Sanders were clearly looking to play it safe, spending most of the match tagging out the second they became the legal man just to scurry back to their corner and avoid any real contact. Disqo even tried to hide behind the ring post at one point when Corporal Cajun started gaining momentum.

The match stayed fast-paced as Stamboli and Cajun traded technical counters until Sanders tagged himself in on Stamboli's back just to land a cheap elbow and immediately tag back out to Palumbo. The FBI and the MIA did the heavy lifting here, with Cajun hitting a flurry of dropkicks on Palumbo before tagging in the General. Rection was a house of fire, clearing the house and even tossing Disqo over the top rope like a piece of trash when the dancer tried to interfere.

Rection looked like he was going to retain for his team after planting Stamboli with a massive powerslam and climbing the turnbuckle for the No Laughing Matter. However, Guido Maritato hopped on the apron to distract the ref, screaming about some Italian injustice. While the ref was busy, Chuck Palumbo, who wasn't even the legal man, moved in, grabbed Rection off the top rope, and drove him into the mat with a massive Powerbomb. Stamboli, crawled over and made the cover to steal the titles as Sanders and Disqo watched from the ramp, realizing they’d missed their chance.

Winners and NEW WCW World Tag Team Champions: The FBI
Rating: 5.6 / 10

Really surprised to see MIA's title reign basically be nothing, but Guido being the difference maker makes sense. Also interesting that Palumbo is Tag Team Champion again since it looked like he was maybe going singles at one point. The Tag Division is really the filler division so far, which is a bit of a shame, but it's also getting lots of guys on TV.

We see BG James backstage talking to Scott Hudson! He says he's ready for tonight and he's going to walk out of Greensboro the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion!

Match 6: WCW World Heavyweight Championship - BG James vs. Lance Storm (c) w/Dawn Marie

The story here was the classic clash of styles: Storm’s clinical, technical precision against the raw brawling and heart of BG James. Storm went right for the legs early, grounding the challenger and twisting his knees in ways they aren't supposed to go. James was a total underdog, hobbling around the ring but refusing to quit, feeding off the Greensboro crowd every time he managed to land a punch.

Every time James tried to build momentum with a flurry of right hands or his signature juke and jive, Storm would shut him down with a perfect dropkick or a dragon screw leg whip. James had his biggest hope spot when he managed to avoid a superkick and hooked Storm up for the pumphandle drop! He nailed it, but the damage to his own leg meant he was slow to make the cover, and Storm only barely kicked out at two and nine-tenths.

The finish was a heartbreaker for the fans. Dawn Marie hopped on the apron to distract the ref just as James had Storm tangled in the Pumphandle again. James didn't fall for the trap and actually shouted her off the apron, but that split-second distraction was all Storm needed to escape. Storm snuck out of the hold, got behind James, and chopped the back of his leg before locking in the Canadian Maple Leaf right in the center of the ring. James showed that 'never give up' attitude, clawing and scratching at the mat for nearly two minutes with his fingernails practically digging into the canvas as he tried for the ropes. Storm just sat back deeper into the hold and dragged him back to the middle every time he got close. Eventually, the pain was too much and James’ arm went limp, forcing the ref to call for the bell as the challenger passed out.

Winner and STILL WCW World Heavyweight Champion: Lance Storm
Rating: 7.9 / 10

What the hell was that? Did Road Dogg just have a great World Heavyweight title match, on PPV, in 2001? And Lance didnt carry him, he did his part. Great storytelling and maybe the BG James main event experiment could work. Storm retaining is the right choice as even being a lesser-known name, his in-ring skills bring respect to the title. Not sure where he goes from here, but a rematch with James wouldn't actually be a bad idea.

Main Event: Booker T & Shane McMahon vs. The Foundation (DDP & Kanyon)

The Greensboro crowd was unglued for this one. The match started as a wild brawl, with Shane McMahon immediately showing he wasn’t afraid to get his hands dirty, unloading on Kanyon with a series of frantic lefts and rights. The action spilled to the outside early, where Shane laid Kanyon out on the announce table and climbed the turnbuckle. Shane launched himself with a massive Leap of Faith, crashing through Kanyon and the table. Both men were down and out, leaving the match to the heavy hitters.

From that point forward, it turned into a heated one-on-one between Booker T and DDP. They traded signature blows in the center of the ring, with Booker hitting a big side kick followed by a 110th Street Slam for a 2 count. DDP fought back, catching Booker with a desperation rotating sit-out powerbomb that nearly ended it. Booker managed to recover and hit the leg boot to DDP's cut, but as he went for the Scissor Kick, DDP moved and Booker turned into a Diamond Cutter! But both men were too tired for a pinfall attempt.

As the match reached a fever pitch, a collision with the referee Nick Patric, sent the him tumbling to the mat. That was the cue for a large man to hop the rail from the audience. It was Mike Awesome! Shane was just beginning to pull himself up, but Awesome intercepted him. Awesome grabbed the owner of WCW and dragged him up the entrance way before he delivered a terrifying Awesome Bomb off the stage through a stack of production tables! Shane was out cold.

Back in the ring, Booker T had finally caught DDP and was setting him up for the Book End. Awesome sprinted down the ramp and slid into the ring with a steel chair, absolutely leveling Booker with a shot to the back. With the ref still groggy, Awesome followed up with an Awesome Bomb onto Booker. DDP crawled over, signaled for the end, and nailed a thunderous Diamond Cutter on the already broken Booker T. DDP made the cover just as the referee came to, counting the 1-2-3.

Winners: The Foundation
Rating: 7.9 / 10

Another great match tonight! The right team won and Mike Awesome is a great, logical addition to this Foundation group. WCW has booked this nearly perfectly thus far in everything in this story. Even the point that I had sort of forgotten about Awesome existing, making his joining of The Foundation make perfect sense.

The Foundation stands tall, Diamond Dallas Page, Kanyon & Mike Awesome as Bash at the Beach goes off the air!

Overall Show Rating: 7.8 / 10
DYLAN'S FINAL THOUGHTS: The show was carried by the Heavyweight title, US title and Main Event matches, but everything else did what it seemed it was supposed to do. I'm really actually excited to see what WCW is going to do next, and thats not something I thought I was going to say if you asked me back in January.
